»September 12, 2007: Blog 10 - Wharton Lauder - Blog weeks 10-14 – Preterm Mayhem and Rocky Steps

Welcome to the first days of preterm at Wharton where you are thrown into a pool of 800 unknown people (your future classmates).Nevertheless, if you are a Lauder Student, on your first day you already know 65 people. This saves you the embarrassment of introducing someone whose name you just learnt (and forgot) to someone you met 15 minutes ago (and whose name you also forgot). As long as you ... ... (MORE)

»August 15, 2007: Wharton Lauder Blog week 9- Back to Phily

When people used to ask me where I lives I used to say Philadelphia even though I spent only one month there in which I was changing places like most people every two weeks in our sublets. Brazil felt sort of like home and we were moving as much. Returning to Philly implied finally settling in, getting utilities, installing blinds, going to IKEA, Wal-Mart, etc. After the getting settled in hyste... ... (MORE)

Air traffic in Brazil has been really messy lately after the plane crash in Sao Paulo. We spent almost half a day waiting in the airport to finally board our plane to Brasilia. Brazil s capital is impressively planned and includes several buildings designed by Oscar Niemeyer, which make it a city of imaginative building design that appeals even to those who do not count architecture among their... ... A tragic event happened this week, a TAM flight failed to land in Sao Paulo and all its passengers died. This was the worst accident in the Brazilian aeronautical history. Different commissions have been appointed to investigate what happened and flights around the country have been delayed. We have used that airport a couple of times, therefore people called home to say they were ok. We hope t... ... (MORE)

»July 16, 2007: Lauder Portuguese - Blog week 5 – Olha Cara que Cidade

Week 5 started in Sao Paulo, the biggest city in the country and certainly one of the most cosmopolitans in the world. Once upon a time, it was the Nation s Capital and still remains as the nation s GDP power hub. During this week the Lauder program was mostly focused on corporate visits. We visited consulting firms like Mc Kinsey, Booz Allen Hamilton, BCG and in relation to financial services... ... (MORE)

»July 12, 2007: Lauder Portuguese - Blog week 4 - Até logo Santos

Sadly, the first period of our summer immersion was over. This week we got to enjoy some terrific views from different surrounding mountains in the island of Sao Vicente (where Santos is located). We also toured Santos s "orquidiario," which is sort of a little zoo. Here lies the last "Mata Atlântica" (Atlantic Forest) found in the island of Sao Vicente. Walking throu... ... (MORE)

»June 27, 2007: Lauder Portuguese - Blog week 3 - Festas Juninas

This week we got to tour the area around Santos. Brazil s first settlements were established in this area of sunny beaches and paradisiacal jungle. In this environment Manioca (the general name for different native variations of Yucca root) sprouts out everywhere. Most Brazilian dishes use Manioca in way or another and you have al sorts of chip like snacks made from Manioca flour ("Polvilh... ... (MORE)

»June 20, 2007: Lauder Portuguese - Blog week 2 - Glorioso Alvinegro Praiano

Week 2 started way before recovering from week one and our program keeps getting more interesting every day. During our immersion we have corporate visits to get a first hand idea of different career opportunities and learn about companies that you have never though about where you may end up working during your summer or after your MBA. Moreover, it provides a sense of how business is done in ... ... (MORE)
